Memory system with an adjustable number of active dies and method for operating the same

A memory system comprising:

• a memory device including a plurality of memory dies each configured by memory blocks;
• and
• a memory controller configured to:
• generate one or more open zones by grouping memory blocks in the memory device;
• generate adjusted active-die information for the one or more open zones by adjusting preset active-die information based on block information associated with memory blocks corresponding to the one or more open zones;
• set a plurality of active dies for the one or more open zones based on the adjusted active-die information;
• and
• perform a write operation on the one or more open zones in response to a write request based on the adjusted active-die information.

A storage system comprising:

• an external device;
• a memory device including a plurality of memory dies each configured by memory blocks;
• and
• a memory controller configured to control the memory device in response to a request of the external device;
• wherein the memory controller is configured to:
• generate one or more open zones by grouping memory blocks in the memory device;
• generate adjusted active-die information for the one or more open zones by adjusting preset active-die information based on block information associated with memory blocks corresponding to the one or more open zones;
• set a plurality of active dies for the one or more open zones based on the adjusted active-die information;
• and
• perform a write operation on the one or more open zones in response to a write request based on the adjusted active-die information.
