Abstract
A gimbal emulator assembly for a non-autonomous radio-controlled mobile apparatus. The assembly accommodates an inertial measurement unit device, a contrived centering signal and a physically separated centering actuator, each for governing communications with the mobile apparatus. One or more orienting implements of the apparatus are responsive to a user's handheld orientation of the assembly and internal inertial measurement unit device. The centering-release actuator may be employed to govern a return of the orienting implement(s) to a predetermined centered position. Further, the communications governed by the assembly may be achieved in an ergonomically friendly, single-handed manner.
Claims20
A gimbal emulator assembly for a non-autonomous radio-controlled mobile apparatus, the gimbal emulator assembly comprising:
- an inertial measurement unit device for handheld orientation signal control communications with the apparatus;
- and
- a centering actuator communicatively coupled to the inertial measurement unit device for governing the signal control communications.
A radio control system comprising:
- a non-autonomous radio-controlled mobile apparatus with at least one orienting implement;
- and
- a gimbal emulator assembly with an inertial measurement unit device and a physically disassociated centering actuator, the device and the actuator to govern movement of the implement.
A method of controlling a non-autonomous mobile apparatus, the method comprising:
- pairing communications between the apparatus and a gimbal emulator assembly with an inertial measurement unit device;
- directing movement of the apparatus in a given direction with the assembly;
- and orienting the moving apparatus with the assembly based on the communications between the apparatus and the inertial measurement unit device.
