A liquid crystal projector includes a light source, a polarizing beam splitter, and first and second reflective liquid crystal panels each having a color filter and a plurality of pixels. Each pixel includes a plurality of subpixels. When two subpixels corresponding to an identical subpixel in a projected image is referred to as a subpixel set, a plurality of types of subpixel sets that are different in combination of colors of the two subpixels are present. When a subpixel set in which a sum of luminance index values of the colors of the two subpixels is largest is referred to as a first-class subpixel set, the combination of the colors of each subpixel set is set so that the sum of the first-class subpixel set is smaller than in a case where it is assumed that the colors of the two subpixels of each subpixel set are identical.
