Polymer dispersed liquid crystal film and method of producing the same

A polymer dispersed liquid crystal film, comprising in the following order:

• a first transparent conductive film;
• a polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer;
• and
• a second transparent conductive film,
• wherein the polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer contains:
• a polymer matrix;
• and
• liquid crystal droplets dispersed in the polymer matrix, the liquid crystal droplets each containing a liquid crystal component and a dichroic dye, and
• wherein a ratio of coalesced liquid crystal droplets in the liquid crystal droplets is 25% or less.

A polymer dispersed liquid crystal film, comprising in the following order:

• a first transparent conductive film;
• a polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer;
• and
• a second transparent conductive film,
• wherein the polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer contains:
• a polymer matrix;
• and
• liquid crystal droplets dispersed in the polymer matrix, the liquid crystal droplets each containing a liquid crystal component and a dichroic dye, and
• wherein a coefficient of variation of particle diameters of the liquid crystal droplets is 48 or less.

A liquid crystal emulsion, comprising:

• a liquid crystal component;
• a dichroic dye;
• a dispersant;
• and
• an aqueous medium,
• wherein the dispersant contains solid particles, and
• wherein liquid crystal particles each containing the liquid crystal component and the dichroic dye are dispersed in the aqueous medium.

A method of producing a polymer dispersed liquid crystal film, comprising:

• mixing a liquid crystal component, a dichroic dye, a dispersant containing solid particles, and an aqueous medium to provide a liquid crystal emulsion;
• mixing the liquid crystal emulsion and a polymer matrix-forming resin to provide an emulsion coating liquid;
• applying the emulsion coating liquid to a first transparent conductive film, followed by drying of the emulsion coating liquid to provide a polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer;
• and
• laminating a second transparent conductive film on the polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer.
