Abstract
Disclosed herein are biomarkers for ovarian cancer and uses thereof, such as in methods for detecting the presence, and recurrence of ovarian cancer. Also disclosed are methods for treating and methods of monitoring the treatment and relapse of ovarian cancer, as well as to kits and compositions for use in such methods.
Claims26
A method of:
- (a) determining an indicator used in assessing a likelihood of the presence or absence of an ovarian cancer in a subject through screening or diagnosis, or
- (b) determining an indicator used in monitoring therapy response or progression of an ovarian cancer present in a subject,
- the method comprising, consisting, or consisting essentially of:
- (i) determining a biomarker value that is measured or derived for a glycospecies of at least one glycoprotein biomarker in a sample obtained from the subject, wherein the at least one glycoprotein is selected from insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IBP3), complement component C9 (CO9), alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2MG), inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 3 protein (ITIH3), alpha-1-antitrypsin (A1AT), haptoglobin (HPT), alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (AACT), alpha-1-acid glycoprotein 1 (A1AG1), alpha-1-acid glycoprotein 2 (A1AG2), alpha-2-HS-glycoprotein (FETUA), complement factor B (CFAB), fibrinogen alpha (FIBA), fibrinogen beta (FIBB), galectin-3-binding protein (LG3BP), gelsolin (GELS), inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 2 protein (ITIH2), and inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 4 protein (ITIH4),
- (ii) determining the indicator using the biomarker value(s), wherein the indicator is at least partially indicative of the likelihood of the presence or absence of the ovarian cancer in the subject or the likelihood of the progression of the ovarian cancer in the subject;
- optionally, wherein in (b), the indicator is determined by comparing a biomarker value in a first sample to a respective biomarker value in a second sample, wherein the second sample was taken at a later time than the first sample.

A method of treating an ovarian cancer in a subject, the method comprising administering to the subject an anti-cancer treatment,
- wherein the subject is classified as likely to have ovarian cancer based on an indicator derived from biomarker values measured or derived for a glycospecies of one or more glycoprotein biomarkers in a sample obtained from the subject,
- wherein the one or more glycoprotein is selected from insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IBP3), complement component C9 (CO9), alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2MG), inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 3 protein (ITIH3), alpha-1-antitrypsin (A1AT), haptoglobin (HPT), alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (AACT), alpha-1-acid glycoprotein 1 (A1AG1), alpha-1-acid glycoprotein 2 (A1AG2 alpha-2-HS-glycoprotein (FETUA), coagulation factor X (FA10), complement factor B (CFAB), fibrinogen alpha (FIBA), fibrinogen beta (FIBB), galectin-3-binding protein (LG3BP), gelsolin (GELS), inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 2 protein (ITIH2), and inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 4 protein (ITIH4), and
- wherein the indicator is at least partially indicative of the likelihood of the presence of ovarian cancer in the subject,
- preferably wherein the anti-cancer treatment is surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and/or immunotherapy,
- optionally wherein the surgery comprises removing all or part of the ovaries.

A method of determining an indicator used in differentiating between the presence of an ovarian cancer or a benign ovarian neoplasm in a subject, the method comprising, consisting, or consisting essentially of:
- (i) determining a biomarker value that is measured or derived for a glycospecies of at least one glycoprotein biomarker in a sample obtained from the subject, wherein the at least one glycoprotein is selected from insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IBP3), complement component 9(CO9), alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2MG), inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 3 protein (ITIH3), alpha-1-antitrypsin (A1AT), haptoglobin (HPT), alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (AACT), alpha-1-acid glycoprotein 1 (A1AG1), alpha-1-acid glycoprotein 2 (A1AG2), complement factor B (CFAB), alpha-2-HS-glycoprotein (FETUA), fibrinogen alpha (FIBA), fibrinogen beta (FIBB), gelsolin (GELS), inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 2 protein (ITIH2), inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor heavy chain 4 protein (ITIH4), and galectin-3 binding protein (LG3BP),
- (ii) determining the indicator using the biomarker value(s), wherein the indicator is at least partially indicative of the presence or absence of ovarian cancer or a benign ovarian neoplasm in the subject.
