A scrap metal bucket for storing and transporting scrap metal to be added to a melting furnace, such as an Electric Arc Furnace (“EAF”). The scrap metal bucket of the present invention includes a drying and preheating subassembly including a port for connection to a feed line to introduce hot gas, air, or other heated fluids into the scrap bucket to warm and dry scrap metal before introduction into an EAF, to eliminate water, ice and snow from the scrap metal prepositioned within the scrap bucket. The subassembly includes apertures in a bottom plate of the bucket, through which a series of nozzles and tubes feed hot gas, air or other gases to heat the interior of the bucket together with the scrap metal, to remove contaminant elements from the steel making process before introducing the scrap metal into the melting furnace.
