Abstract
A gate valve monitor is described. In one broad form, the gate valve monitor comprises an actuator accommodated inside an enclosure. The enclosure may be the valve body or a separate component. In one embodiment the gate valve monitor comprises one or more switch and an actuator, the one or more switch and actuator accommodated within an enclosure and the enclosure dimensioned to allow passage of said gate valve shaft. The actuator is operated by movement of the gate valve shaft to trigger the one or more switch. Also described are a gate valve comprising the gate valve monitor, a method of monitoring a gate valve a method of manufacturing a gate valve monitor and a kit for monitoring a gate valve.
Claims21
A gate valve monitor comprising:
- one or more alarm switch and an actuator, the one or more alarm switch and the actuator accommodated within an enclosure, the enclosure dimensioned to allow passage of a gate valve shaft traversing an entire extent of the enclosure, the actuator comprising an actuator body dimensioned to extend into a groove in the gate valve shaft;
- and
- the actuator operated by movement of the gate valve shaft which impacts the actuator body to trigger the one or more alarm switch.
A method of monitoring a gate valve, the method comprising:
- fitting or retrofitting a gate valve monitor to a gate valve, the gate valve monitor comprising one or more alarm switch and an actuator, the one or more alarm switch and the actuator accommodated within an enclosure the enclosure dimensioned to allow passage of a gate valve shaft traversing an entire extent of the enclosure, the actuator comprising an actuator body dimensioned to extend into a groove in the gate valve shaft, wherein the actuator is operated when the gate valve shaft moves which impacts the protrusion to trigger the one or more alarm switch.
A method of manufacturing a gate valve monitor, the method comprising:
- providing one or more alarm switch and an actuator to be accommodated within an enclosure, the enclosure dimensioned to allow passage of said gate valve shaft traversing an entire extent of the enclosure, the actuator comprising an actuator body dimensioned to extend into a groove in the gate valve shaft;
- and
- inserting the one or more alarm switch and the actuator into the enclosure, wherein the actuator is operated by movement of the gate valve shaft which impacts the actuator body to trigger the one or more alarm switch.
A kit for monitoring a gate valve, the kit comprising:
- an enclosure, one or more alarm switch and an actuator, the one or more alarm switch and the actuator to be accommodated within the enclosure, the enclosure dimensioned to allow passage of said gate valve shaft traversing an entire extent of the enclosure, the actuator comprising an actuator body dimensioned to extend into a groove in the gate valve shaft;
- wherein the actuator is operated by movement of the gate valve shaft which impacts the actuator body to trigger the one or more alarm switch.
