Abstract
An open pit mine and a mining method are disclosed. The mine comprises a mine pit defined by a pit wall 31, with a target area 29 of the pit wall including a plurality of batters 23 separated by berms 51 and a civil engineering support system for the pit wall. The civil engineering support system makes it possible for the pit wall to have a pit wall slope angle that is greater than would have been possible for safe mining without the civil engineering support system.

An open pit mine including a mine pit defined by a pit wall, with a target area of the pit wall including a plurality of batters separated by berms and a civil engineering support system for the pit wall that makes it possible for the pit wall to have a pit wall slope angle that is greater than would have been possible for safe mining without the civil engineering support system.
A method of mining material in an open pit mine comprising mining material from a target area of the mine by progressively forming a pit wall having successive, batters and berms separating the batters as mining progresses, and installing a civil engineering support system for the pit wall that makes it possible for the pit wall to have a pit wall slope angle that is greater than would have been possible for safe mining without the civil engineering support system.
