Abstract
A gate assembly includes a stationary frame supporting a gate frame thereon for translating movement between open and closed positions relative to a gate opening. The stationary frame includes post assemblies at opposing sides of the gate opening and an overhead beam spanning over the gate opening between the post assemblies from which the gate frame is suspended. The overhead beam and the gate frame are modular assemblies formed of frame elements joined to one another by threaded fasteners. In this manner, the components of the gate assembly can be shipped as a package having shipping dimensions which are greatly reduced relative to the assembled dimensions of the gate assembly so that the package can be transported more easily and at reduced cost.
Claims18
A gate assembly comprising:
- a first post assembly and a second post assembly arranged to be supported in fixed relation to ground at longitudinally spaced apart locations so as to define a gate opening spanning in a longitudinal direction between the first post assembly and the second post assembly;
- an overhead beam arranged to be mounted on the first post assembly and the second post assembly so as to span in the longitudinal direction over the gate opening;
- and
- a gate frame arranged to be suspended from the overhead beam for translating movement in the longitudinal direction along the overhead beam between a closed position spanning the gate opening between the first post assembly and the second post assembly and an open position in which the gate opening is at least partially unobstructed by the gate frame;
- wherein at least one of the overhead beam and the gate frame comprises a modular assembly of frame elements joined to one another by threaded fasteners whereby the modular assembly is reduced in length in the longitudinal direction when the frame elements are disassembled relative to one another.
