Abstract
A smoke curtain assembly comprises a curtain housing 401 for a smoke curtain, a smoke curtain 500 having a first side magnetic strip 503 and a second side magnetic strip 504, a roller 501 for winding up the curtain for storage in the headbox, a motor and shaft in the curtain housing, and a pair of drawstrings to draw the roller into the curtain housing. A lateral magnetic strip 505 is attached to the curtain which draws the curtain material to a ferromagnetic surface surrounding an opening to be covered by the smoke curtain.
Claims20
A smoke curtain comprising:
- a flexible web of material having a first side, a second side and an outer perimeter extending around said first and second sides;
- said perimeter comprising an upper edge, a lower edge, a first side edge extending between said upper and edge and said lower edge, a second side edge extending between said upper edge and said lower edge, said first and second side edges spaced apart from each other;
- and
- a region of magnetic material extending between said first and second side edges and located at a position between said upper and lower edges.
A smoke curtain assembly comprising:
- a flexible smoke curtain comprising an elongate web of material having an upper end and a lower end, a first side edge, and a second side edge;
- a container for housing said smoke curtain;
- and
- a roller for carrying said smoke curtain;
- characterised in that:
- said curtain has a laterally extending magnetic strip extending across the width of the curtain between first and second sides of said curtain.
A method of installing a smoke curtain assembly to a surrounding structure to a clear opening in a building, or ship, said method comprising:
- securing a smoke curtain container to said opening surround above said opening, and spaced apart from said opening;
- securing an upper part of a smoke curtain to said container, or to said opening surround;
- and
- attaching a strip of magnetic material to said smoke curtain at a distance along said smoke curtain which is spaced apart from a location where said smoke curtain is attached to said container or said opening surround, and which is above an upper perimeter of said opening.
