Abstract
A window balance assembly may include a carrier, a spring element, and a mounting bracket. The spring element is coupled to the carrier and, in an uninstalled, assembled configuration of the window balance assembly, the mounting bracket is retained with the carrier.
Claims15
A window balance assembly comprising:
- a carrier having a carrier height extending along a first axis from a first end to a second end, a carrier depth extending along a second axis and a carrier width extending along a third axis, and comprising a housing comprising a first housing portion and a second housing portion which together define an interior space and a first surface located in the interior space that extends along the second axis;
- a constant force curl spring comprising a curled portion disposed substantially within the interior space and an uncurled portion extending outside of the interior space;
- a receiver supported by the carrier near the second end of the carrier and comprising a cam rotatable about the second axis between a first position and a second position, wherein rotation of the cam from the first position to the second position operates to change a dimension of the carrier;
- a mounting bracket having a mounting bracket depth extending along the second axis, a mounting bracket width extending along the third axis from a first side to a second side, wherein the mounting bracket depth is substantially the same as the carrier depth;
- wherein the mounting bracket comprises at least one mounting aperture;
- wherein the first side of the mounting bracket comprises a recess and a latch;
- wherein, in an assembled configuration of the window balance assembly, the uncurled portion of the curl spring is at least partially received in the recess and is engaged with the latch and the curl spring exerts a force against the latch of the mounting bracket to retain the mounting bracket against the first end of the carrier.

- a receiver near an end of the carrier, the receiver comprising a cam rotatable about an axis of the carrier depth between a first position and a second position, wherein rotation of the cam changes a dimension of the carrier;
- a mounting bracket with a mounting bracket depth and a mounting bracket width, the mounting bracket depth being substantially the same as the carrier depth, and comprising at least one mounting aperture;
- wherein the mounting bracket has a recess and a latch on one side, the uncurled portion of the curl spring being at least partially received in the recess and engaged with the latch;
- wherein, in an uninstalled configuration of the window balance assembly, a lower surface of the mounting bracket bears against an upper surface of the carrier.
