Abstract
A foundation support pier includes first and second hollow steel shafts having a uniform outer circumference and a distal end edge with a forward torque transmitting edge portion having a straight end-to-end length and a rearward torque transmitting edge portion extending from and obliquely oriented to the forward torque transmitting edge portion. The rearward torque transmitting edge portion has a sloped end-to-end length that is greater than the straight end-to-end length. A coupler sleeve maintains a forward torque transmitting relationship and a rearward torque transmitting relationship between the distal ends in the installation of the support pier.
Claims20
A support system for a building foundation, the support system comprising:
- a support pier comprising a first shaft and a second shaft sized and dimensioned to support the building foundation from a below ground location, wherein each of the first shaft and the second shaft is a hollow steel shaft comprising:
- an elongated hollow shaft body having a uniform outer circumference;
- a distal end edge integrally formed on the elongated hollow shaft body without changing the uniform outer circumference, wherein the distal end edge comprises:
- a first forward torque transmitting edge portion having opposing ends and a straight end-to-end length;
- and
- a first rearward torque transmitting edge portion extending from and obliquely oriented relative to the first forward torque transmitting edge portion, the first rearward torque transmitting edge portion having a sloped end-to-end length;
- wherein the sloped end-to-end length is greater than the straight end-to-end length;
- and
- a coupler sleeve surrounding the distal end edges of the first and second shaft, the coupler sleeve configured to maintain a forward torque transmitting relationship and a rearward torque transmitting relationship between the first shaft and the second shaft in the installation of the support pier.
