A method of performing optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the course of treatment of a macular degeneration patient with a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor, the method comprising:
- administering the VEGF inhibitor to the patient having macular degeneration and performing a first OCT to initially determine:
- i) the central retinal thickness, ii) the level of subretinal fluid, iii) the total neovascular lesion size, iv) the level of subretinal hyperreflectivity material (SHM), or v) the level of intraretinal fluid;
- performing a second OCT on the patient after the administration of the VEGF inhibitor;
- and
- administering about 2 mg of the VEGF inhibitor to the patient at a dosing frequency of about every 9 to 12 weeks if:
- i) the central retinal thickness is reduced, ii) the level of subretinal fluid is decreased, iii) the total neovascular lesion size is reduced, iv) the SHM is reduced, or v) the level of intraretinal fluid is reduced;
- administering about 2 mg of the VEGF inhibitor to the patient at a dosing frequency of about every 4 to 7 weeks if:
- i) the central retinal thickness is not reduced, ii) the level of subretinal fluid is not decreased, iii) the total neovascular lesion size is not reduced, iv) the SHM is not reduced, or v) the level of intraretinal fluid is not reduced;
- wherein the patient has at least one genetic variant selected from the group consisting of rs2056688, rs5962084, rs5962087, rs5915722, rs5962095, and rs1405303.
A method of performing fluorescence angiography in the course of treatment of a macular degeneration patient with a vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor, the method comprising:
- administering the VEGF inhibitor to the patient having macular degeneration and performing a first fluorescence angiography to initially determine:
- i) the total neovascular lesion size, or ii) new or persistent leaks;
- performing a second fluorescence angiography on the patient after the administration of the VEGF inhibitor;
- and
- administering about 2 mg of the VEGF inhibitor to the patient at a dosing frequency of about every 9 to 12 weeks if:
- i) the total neovascular lesion size is reduced, or ii) there is a lack of new or persistent leaks;
- administering about 2 mg of the VEGF inhibitor to the patient at a dosing frequency of about every 4 to 7 weeks if:
- i) the total neovascular lesion size is not reduced, or ii) there is not a lack of new or persistent leaks;
- wherein the patient has at least one genetic variant selected from the group consisting of rs2056688, rs5962084, rs5962087, rs5915722, rs5962095, and rs1405303.
