Turbine air segregation air cycle system

An environmental control system of a vehicle comprising:

• an inlet configured to receive a medium;
• an outlet for receiving a conditioned form of the medium, wherein a first portion of the conditioned form of the medium at the outlet is to be provided to a cabin of the vehicle;
• and
• a thermodynamic device in fluid communication with the inlet, the thermodynamic device including:
• a compressor;
• a first turbine;
• and
• a second turbine;
• wherein the compressor, the first turbine and the second turbine are operably coupled by a shaft;
• and
• wherein the compressor, the first turbine and the second turbine are fluidly connected such that at least a portion of the medium is provided to the compressor, the first turbine and the second turbine in series;
• and
• further comprising an air-liquid heat exchanger disposed fluidly downstream of the second turbine such that the medium output from the second turbine exchanges thermal energy with a flow of liquid at the liquid-air heat exchanger;
• and
• wherein the first portion of the medium is output to the cabin downstream of the liquid-air heat exchanger.
