System and device for printing upon textured surfaces of building panels, and methods thereof

A method of printing a three-dimensional effect on a textured building panel, the method comprising:

• providing the textured building panel on a bed of a printing device, the textured building panel comprising a textured material defining a panel body having an upper surface defining a first plane, the textured material comprising protruding portions extending beyond the first plane;
• removing loose material from the textured material;
• after removing the loose material, applying a sprayed coating to the textured material at a coating weight of no more than 10 g/ft2;
• and
• printing, with one or more print heads of the printing device, an ultraviolet-curable ink onto the textured material to form the three-dimensional effect;
• wherein, during printing, the one or more print heads are maintained at a distance from a topmost surface of the protruding portions such that the one or more print heads do not contact the textured material.
