Printing Apparatus

A printing apparatus comprising:

• a print head that forms a dot on a medium based on a position information signal;
• a magnetic encoder that outputs a base position information signal corresponding to a relative positional change between the medium and the print head, based on a change in a magnetic field;
• and
• a signal conversion circuit to which the base position information signal is input and which outputs the position information signal corresponding to the base position information signal, wherein
• the signal conversion circuit includes
• a count circuit to which a clock signal having a predetermined cycle is input and which counts the number of pulses of the clock signal within an edge interval of the base position information signal,
• a holding circuit that includes n-stage buffer circuits, acquires a count value of the count circuit for each edge of the base position information signal, and holds the count value as n count values,
• an averaging circuit that calculates an average value of the n count values held by the holding circuit, and
• an output circuit that outputs the position information signal according to the base position information signal and the average value.
