Abstract
A compression connector for securing an apparatus to a mounting surface. The compression connector device can include a housing that can include a cavity configured to accept a wedge member within the cavity. The wedge member and cavity can include corresponding angular surfaces. A biasing means can be coupled to the wedge member or housing and configured to move the wedge member from a first position to a second position within the cavity. As the wedge member is moved to a second position a compressive force can be applied between the wedge and a mounting surface of an object.
Claims19
A compression device for mounting to an object, comprising:
- a housing member comprising a handle portion, an aperture configured to receive the object therethrough, a first cavity having an open end, a fixed end, and an angular surface, and a nut-retaining recess formed adjacent to the fixed end;
- a wedge member having a leading edge, a trailing edge, a first surface, and a second surface, wherein the first surface has a shape configured to engage an outer surface of the object and the second surface has an angular orientation corresponding to the angular surface of the first cavity, wherein at least a portion of the wedge member is configured to be positioned within the first cavity;
- a nut retained within the nut-retaining recess of the housing member;
- and
- a fastener configured to extend through the wedge member and engage the nut to bias the wedge member within the first cavity from a first position to a second position, wherein the wedge member exerts a compressive force against the object when positioned at the second position.
A compression device for mounting a housing to an object, comprising:
- a housing member comprising an aperture configured to receive the object therethrough and a first cavity having an open end, a fixed end, an angular surface, and a first aperture at the fixed end;
- a wedge member having a leading edge, a trailing edge, a first surface configured to engage an outer surface of the object, and a second surface having an angular orientation corresponding to the angular surface of the first cavity, wherein the wedge member includes an extension portion extending from a face of the wedge member, the extension portion having a threaded portion formed on an exterior surface thereof and an aperture extending therethrough;
- and
- a lock nut having a threaded aperture configured to engage the threaded portion of the extension portion, wherein the lock nut can be turned to bias the wedge member within the first cavity, wherein the extension portion extends through the first aperture of the housing member such that the lock nut is positionable on the extension portion to draw the wedge member into the first cavity and apply a compressive force against the cylindrical object.
A method of mounting a compression device to an object, comprising:
- positioning a housing member having an aperture over the object such that the object extends through the aperture;
- inserting a wedge member into a first cavity of the housing member, wherein the wedge member has a first surface configured to engage a mounting surface of the object and a second surface having an angular orientation corresponding to an angular surface of the first cavity;
- and
- actuating a fastener to bias the wedge member from a first position to a second position within the first cavity, wherein the second surface of the wedge member slides along the angular surface of the first cavity and the first surface exerts an increasing compressive force against the mounting surface of the object, thereby securing the housing member in a fixed position on the object without requiring modification to the object.
