Abstract

A portable centrifuge comprising a base assembly, which includes a portion of a rotational motor contained within a motor mount to reduce or eliminate excessive vibratory movements. A sequester wheel having a plurality of concentric rings, forming at least one channel and a central container is disposed onto the base assembly. A first cover is disposed over the sequester wheel to create a seal. A second cover is disposed over the first cover and is rotatable to engage with the rotational mechanism to initiate rotation at a predetermined RPM. The whole blood, tissue or other cell types are separated into its constituent components and deposited into the at least one channel and the central container. Specific volumes of the constituent components, tissue and/or cell types may be calculated to match or substantially match the first and second volumes for predetermined volume control and ease of access.

Dependent claims

An anti-vibratory portable centrifuge comprising:

a base assembly, the base assembly comprising, a baseplate, a base cover, a rotational assembly, the rotational assembly including a motor mount, a rotational motor and a bearing wheel, the rotational motor comprising a rotational body and a rotational stem, the motor mount comprising a first end, second end and a cavity, the cavity comprising a first shoulder and a second shoulder, at least a portion of the rotational body of the rotational motor is disposed within the cavity, the first shoulder and the second shoulder contact a portion of a top surface of the rotational body of the rotational motor, the second end of the motor mount is coupled to the baseplate, the bearing wheel engages with the first end of the motor mount;
a sequester wheel, the sequester wheel is disposed onto a portion of the base assembly;
a first cover, the first cover comprising a first extraction region and a second extraction region, the first cover is disposed over the sequester wheel;
and
a second cover, the second cover is disposed over the first cover.

A method of using an anti-vibratory portable centrifuge comprises the steps of:

providing a base assembly, the base assembly comprising, a baseplate, a base cover, a rotational assembly, an activation slider and an activation switch, the rotational assembly including a motor mount, a rotational motor and a bearing wheel, the rotational motor comprising a rotational body and a rotational stem, the motor mount comprising a first end, second end and a cavity, the cavity comprising a first shoulder and a second shoulder, at least a portion of the rotational body of the rotational motor is disposed within the cavity, the first shoulder and the second shoulder contact a portion of a top surface of the rotational body of the rotational motor, the second end of the motor mount is coupled to the baseplate, the bearing wheel engages with the first end of the motor mount, the base cover is coupled to the baseplate;
positioning a sequester wheel onto a portion of the base assembly;
disposing a first cover over a portion of the sequester wheel, the first cover comprising a first extraction region and a second extraction region;
disposing a second cover over at least a portion of the first cover, the second cover comprising an activation tab, the activation tab being inserted through an activation slot of the activation slider;
rotating the second cover relative to the first cover from a from a first position to a second position, the second position allows the activation slider to engage the activation lever of the activation switch to deflect a deflectable flap and compress the activation button;
activating centrifugal rotation after the compressed activation button of the activation switch completes the circuit.
