Abstract
In an ammonia-based carbon dioxide capturing system sections of the system are stacked to form a single column and save civil works, footprint and components. Specifically, an ammonia regenerator, a carbon dioxide water wash section and an ammonia stripper are stacked to form a single column.

An apparatus for ammonia-based carbon dioxide capture, the apparatus comprising:
- a vertically-oriented column comprising:
- a regenerator configured to release carbon dioxide from a CO2-rich ammonia solution;
- a CO2 water wash section coupled to the regenerator and configured to receive gaseous carbon dioxide released from the regenerator and remove ammonia therefrom;
- and
- an ammonia stripper coupled to the CO2 water wash section and configured to remove ammonia from an ammonia-rich water stream,
- wherein the CO2 water wash section is disposed vertically between the regenerator and the ammonia stripper.

- a lower regenerator section;
- an intermediate carbon dioxide water wash section disposed above the lower regenerator section;
