Abstract
Various embodiments of a golf club senor housing are described herein. The sensor housing can include a cover and a base that enclose a sensor therebetween. The sensor housing can be designed to sit on the end of a grip in a position that is non-obtrusive to the user. The sensor housing can further be configured to minimizes the impact on the center of gravity (CG) of the golf club by including mass reducing features. The sensor housing is also configured to sit lower on the grip and reduce the length that it projects outward from the grip butt end. Reducing the added length from the sensor housing creates a less-obtrusive feature.

A golf club, comprising:
- a club head;
- a shaft coupled to the club head;
- a grip coupled to the shaft, comprising:
- a front side;
- a rear side opposite the front side;
- a tip end proximate the shaft;
- and
- a butt end opposite the tip end, the butt end defining a grip surface and a grip aperture;
- and
- a sensor housing, comprising:
- a base configured to couple to the grip, the base comprising:
- a post received by the grip aperture;
- and
- a disk, comprising:
- a disk top surface;
- a disk bottom surface opposite the disk top surface;
- and
- a disk recess extending inward toward a geometric center of the disk;
- a cover coupled to the base, the cover comprising:
- a skirt, comprising:
- a skirt bottom edge defining a bottom opening of the cover that receives the disk;
- and
- a skirt interior surface having a notch adjacent the skirt bottom edge that engages the disk recess;
- and
- a rim comprising a rim top edge defining a top opening of the cover, the rim top edge extending inward toward a central axis of the sensor housing and forming an entire uninterrupted perimeter of the top opening;
- wherein:
- the cover and the disk cooperate such that the skirt interior surface and the disk top surface define a sensor cavity for housing a sensor, and the skirt interior surface and the disk bottom surface define a lower cavity;
- the butt end of the grip is at least partially received in the lower cavity, and at least 50% of the grip surface is in contact with the disk bottom surface;
- and
- the sensor housing remains within the grip surface and does not overhang a perimeter of the grip.
A golf club, comprising:
- a club head;
- a shaft coupled to the club head;
- a grip coupled to the shaft, comprising:
- a front side;
- a rear side opposite the front side;
- a tip end proximate the shaft;
- and
- a butt end opposite the tip end, the butt end defining a grip surface and a grip aperture;
- and
- a sensor housing, comprising:
- a base configured to couple to the grip, the base comprising:
- a post received by the grip aperture;
- and
- a disk, comprising:
- a disk top surface;
- a disk bottom surface opposite the disk top surface;
- and
- a disk recess extending inward toward a geometric center of the disk;
- a cover coupled to the base, the cover comprising:
- a skirt, comprising:
- a skirt bottom edge defining a bottom opening of the cover that receives the disk;
- and
- a skirt interior surface having a notch adjacent the skirt bottom edge that engages the disk recess, a flange adjacent the notch, and a first skirt recess;
- and
- a rim, comprising:
- a rim top edge defining a top opening of the cover, the rim top edge extending inward toward a central axis of the sensor housing and forming an entire uninterrupted perimeter of the top opening;
- and
- a rim exterior surface comprising a first projection that engages the first skirt recess to couple the rim to the skirt;
- wherein:
- the cover and the disk cooperate such that the skirt interior surface and the disk top surface define a sensor cavity for housing a sensor, and the skirt interior surface and the disk bottom surface define a lower cavity;
- the butt end of the grip is at least partially received in the lower cavity, and at least 50% of the grip surface is in contact with the disk bottom surface;
- and
- the sensor housing remains within the grip surface and does not overhang a perimeter of the grip.
