Formulations and Methods for Collecting and Storing Blood and Blood Products

Abstract

In various aspects, the invention provides dry (or solid) compositions or formulations (in the form of powder, capsules, and tablets) to be mixed with donated whole blood. In another aspect, the invention provides dry or solid compositions or formulations (in the form of powder, capsules, and tablets) to be mixed with a donated blood product such as red blood cells. In further aspects, the invention provides a blood bag comprising an interior containing dry (or solid) compositions or formulations (in the form of powder, capsules, and tablets) to be mixed with donated whole blood or a blood product thereof. In further aspects, the invention provides whole blood, or a blood product thereof, mixed with a dry formulation as described herein.
