A surgical tool comprising a body, a needle extending from a distal end of the body to access a surgical area, and a stiffening sleeve extending from the distal end and surrounding at least a portion of the needle for stabilizing the needle. The surgical tool further comprises a first magnet coupled to a proximal end of the stiffening sleeve and a second magnet within the body. The first magnet and the second magnet are arranged such that a repulsive force is formed between the first magnet and the second magnet. When external proximal forces on the stiffening sleeve are less than the repulsive force, the first magnet and the stiffening sleeve are in a fully extended position, and when external proximal forces on the stiffening sleeve are greater than the repulsive force, the first magnet and the stiffening sleeve are retracted proximally towards the body.
