Abstract
Functional patient-specific acetabular component alignment is important in total hip arthroplasty. A method for acetabular component alignment by calculating pelvic tilt from an anteroposterior radiograph of the pelvis of a patient may be replicated intraoperatively for patient-specific alignment. A system for automated generation of the pelvic tilt from an anteroposterior radiograph presented improves the efficacy and accuracy of total hip arthroplasty.
Claims20
A system for providing intraoperative surgical guidance to position an acetabular component, comprising:
- an imaging system configured to obtain an anteroposterior radiographic image of a subject;
- and
- a computing platform coupled to the imaging system, the computing platform comprising a processor and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the computing platform to:
- receive the anteroposterior radiographic image;
- determine a plurality of anatomical landmarks based on a digital image analysis of the anteroposterior radiographic image;
- determine a pelvic tilt based on a spatial relationship between at least two of the plurality of anatomical landmarks;
- and
- generate an output indicating the pelvic tilt to provide surgical guidance for intraoperatively positioning the acetabular component.
A method for providing intraoperative surgical guidance to position an acetabular component, comprising:
- obtaining, by an imaging system, an anteroposterior radiographic image of a subject;
- receiving, by a computing platform comprising a processor, the anteroposterior radiographic image;
- determining, by the computing platform, a plurality of anatomical landmarks based on a digital image analysis of the anteroposterior radiographic image;
- determining, by the computing platform, a pelvic tilt based on a spatial relationship between at least two of the plurality of anatomical landmarks;
- and
- generating, by the computing platform, an output indicating the pelvic tilt to provide surgical guidance for intraoperatively positioning the acetabular component.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor of a computing platform, cause the computing platform to perform operations comprising:
- receiving an anteroposterior radiographic image of a subject;
- determining a plurality of anatomical landmarks based on a digital image analysis of the anteroposterior radiographic image;
- determining a pelvic tilt based on a spatial relationship between at least two of the plurality of anatomical landmarks;
- and
- generating an output indicating the pelvic tilt to provide surgical guidance for intraoperatively positioning the acetabular component.
