A medicament seed configured for enhanced retention within a patient's gingival crevice, and systems for delivery. The medicament seed includes a carrier carrying a medicament for release. To counteract displacement forces within the gingival crevice, the medicament seed includes retention features. The retention features may include specific geometric shapes adapted to wedge against anatomical structures like the interdental papilla, surface modifications such as microstructures, bioadhesive coatings, or moisture-activated adhesives, conformable gels or viscous fluids that adapt to the crevice shape, or using expandable materials that wedge the medicament seed in place upon expansion.
