Abstract

An oral cleaning system or section is provided which includes an arrangement of cleaning elements which consists of an ordered sequence of groups of cleaning elements aligned along an axis, the groups each being populated by one of a set of different types or classes of element which differ for example in their layout, form, orientation, shape, dimensions, or other spatial characteristics. Thus, this provides a brushing field which contains elements suited for multiple different types of brushing or other mechanical action in relation to oral surfaces. To optimize coverage of all teeth with different cleaning categories, it is proposed to provide the arrangement such that it formed by a sequence of units, each unit containing at least one group of each category of cleaning element, and wherein the arrangement includes units of different widths along said axis. This allows for matching different widths to the different widths of teeth, which improves coverage of all cleaning element categories over teeth of all types.

Dependent claims

A cleaning section for an oral cleaning device, comprising:

a substrate;
and
an arrangement of cleaning elements carried by a surface of the substrate;
wherein the arrangement is formed of cleaning elements from a set of at least two different categories of cleaning element, the cleaning elements of each category having at least one of a height, length or angular extension relative to the substrate surface different from the other category;
wherein the arrangement of cleaning elements is composed of a plurality of arrangement units arrayed sequentially in a row along a longitudinal axis, each unit including a plurality of groups of cleaning elements, each group comprising cleaning elements of only one of the categories, and each unit having at least one group of each category of cleaning elements,
wherein each cleaning element group of each unit defines an elongate footprint on the substrate having an elongate length dimension which is perpendicular to said longitudinal axis, and wherein the cleaning element groups within each unit are arrayed sequentially along said longitudinal axis;
and
wherein each cleaning arrangement unit has a total width along the longitudinal axis, and wherein the plurality of cleaning arrangement units includes units with different total widths to one another.
