Abstract
A method for post-extraction dental implant surgery. The method involves extracting a tooth to expose an alveolar cavity and drilling a preparatory hole at its apex. A dental drill having a working median portion and a non-working distal portion is inserted, with the distal portion placed into the preparatory hole. The drill is then oscillated using the non-working distal portion as a fulcrum of rotation. This action causes the working median portion to selectively remove bone, creating an osteotomy with a corrected inclination for subsequent implant placement.
Claims20
A method for the execution of post-extraction dental implant surgery in an alveolar bone of a patient, the method comprising:
- extracting a tooth from the alveolar bone to expose an alveolar cavity having a natural inclination and an apical portion;
- drilling a preparatory hole in the apical portion of the alveolar cavity;
- providing a dental drill comprising a proximal portion, a working median portion adapted to remove bone, and a non-working distal portion adapted to be inserted into the preparatory hole without removing bone;
- inserting the non-working distal portion of the dental drill into the preparatory hole such that a longitudinal axis of the dental drill is arranged along a first direction corresponding to the natural inclination of the alveolar cavity;
- rotating the dental drill about its longitudinal axis;
- and
- oscillating the rotating dental drill by using the non-working distal portion within the preparatory hole as a fulcrum of rotation, thereby causing the working median portion to engage and remove a portion of the alveolar bone to create an osteotomy having a second direction different from the first direction.
