Abstract
Systems, devices, and methods for treating a medical condition of a patient are disclosed herein. The system includes: a catheter for insertion into the intestine, the catheter having an elongate shaft comprising a distal portion; and a functional assembly positioned on the shaft distal portion and having at least one treatment element. The at least one treatment element treats target tissue is located in the small intestine of the patient.

A system for endoluminal electroporation of intestinal mucosa, comprising:
- an elongate shaft;
- a functional assembly coupled to the elongate shaft and configured to transition from a compact delivery geometry to an expanded geometry that forms an at least partially tubular treatment surface sized to circumferentially contact the intestinal mucosa;
- a plurality of electrodes disposed circumferentially on the at least partially tubular treatment surface;
- at least one sensor configured to generate an apposition signal that is indicative of apposition between the at least partially tubular treatment surface and the intestinal mucosa;
- and
- a console comprising a pulse generator and a controller operatively coupled to the plurality of electrodes and the at least one sensor, the controller being configured to receive the apposition signal and control delivery of electroporation energy to the plurality of electrodes based on the apposition signal, and to provide an indication when the apposition signal indicates inadequate apposition.
A method of delivering an endoluminal electroporation device, comprising:
- providing a visualization device comprising an endoscope;
- providing a tissue treatment assembly comprising a plurality of electrodes disposed to form an at least partially tubular treatment surface;
- arranging the tissue treatment assembly circumferentially around a distal portion of the endoscope in a compact delivery configuration;
- advancing the tissue treatment assembly and the endoscope through the stomach to the intestine while the tissue treatment assembly remains positioned about the distal portion of the endoscope;
- at a target site, advancing the tissue treatment assembly beyond a distal end of the endoscope or otherwise releasing the tissue treatment assembly from the distal portion, and transitioning the tissue treatment assembly to an expanded geometry in which the plurality of electrodes circumferentially contact intestinal mucosa to form the at least partially tubular treatment surface;
- and
- delivering electroporation energy via the plurality of electrodes to treat the intestinal mucosa.
