A trocar assembly includes: a housing including a cannula, the cannula having an open end; a trocar disposed in the cannula and including a spear end and a trocar extraction feature; and an extraction feature carried by the housing that is shaped and sized to couple with the trocar extraction feature on the trocar.

A trocar assembly, comprising:
- a housing comprising a cannula, the cannula comprising an open end;
- a trocar disposed in the cannula and comprising a spear end and a trocar extraction feature;
- and
- an extraction feature carried by the housing that is shaped and sized to couple with the trocar extraction feature on the trocar.

- a housing comprising a cannula, the cannula comprising an open end;
- a trocar disposed in the cannula and comprising a spear end and a trocar extraction feature that is configured to couple with a corresponding extraction feature so the trocar is captured;

- an energizer acting on the trocar and configured to force the trocar from a safety position where the spear end is entirely within the cannula to an extended position where the spear end extends out of the open end of the cannula.
