A system and method provide non-invasive, continuous monitoring using a plurality (swarm) of programmable, battery-less, autonomous, biodegradable smart dust particles (SDPs). Each SDP features sensors printed on a layered separating medium for chromatographic separation and an RFID tag comprising a unique identification (ID) barcode. Applied to skin overlying biological tissue, optionally via spray, the SDPs transmit signals wirelessly to an external receiver. A processor correlates received signals with spatial coordinates on the skin using each SDP's unique ID. This enables the generation of a spatiotemporal chemical tomogram, mapping detected chemical compounds (e.g., VOCs) across the underlying biological tissue. The system facilitates applications such as wearable tomography and continuous tumour diagnostics, including monitoring for conditions like breast cancer by analysing the chemical map over time.
