Video endoscope with flexible tip

A method of assembling an endoscope, comprising:

• inserting at least two pull wires through a shaft;
• coupling a distal end of each pull wire of the at least two pull wires to a distal end of the shaft;
• coupling a proximal end of each pull wire of the at least two pull wires to a control wheel assembly;
• positioning the control wheel assembly in a handle, wherein rotation of the control wheel assembly causes deflection of the distal end of the shaft;
• and
• positioning an arcuate member over at least a portion of the control wheel assembly, wherein the arcuate member prevents external contaminants from entering a control wheel opening of the handle.

A control assembly of an endoscope device, comprising:

• at least two pull wires that extend distally from a handle through a shaft, wherein the pull wires are operatively coupled to a flexible tip;
• a control wheel assembly located within the handle and operatively coupled to the at least two pull wires, wherein rotation of the control wheel assembly causes deflection of the flexible tip via at least one pull wire of the at least two pull wires;
• and
• an arcuate member covering at least a portion of the control wheel assembly to prevent external contaminants from entering a control wheel opening defined by the handle.
