Abstract

A mattress assembly includes a base layer; a support layer disposed over the base layer; an upper layer disposed over the support layer; and an outer covering encasing the base layer, the support layer, and the upper layer; wherein the support layer includes a plurality of gel support units attached to one another in an array of rows and columns, wherein each of the gel support units includes a plurality of gel members. Methods of making mattress assemblies and support layers for mattresses are also described.
