A method for manufacturing a device includes: examining a substrate of naturally occurring or artificially produced graphite for presence of a boundary region between a first layer having a Bernal-crystal structure and a second layer having a rhombohedral crystal structure; and determining a presence of a conducting region in the substrate wherein inductively induced electric current remains constant over a period of time when the substrate is maintained at a temperature below a critical temperature. The inductively induced current stops when the substrate is raised above the critical temperature; or when an applied magnetic flux density is raised above a critical magnetic flux density. The method further includes providing one or more of: an ohmic contact electrically coupled, a coil inductively coupled, an electrode capacitively coupled, or an optical element electromagnetically coupled with the conducting region.
