Abstract
Disclosed are exemplary embodiments of patterned electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation materials (e.g., EMI absorbers, thermally-conductive EMI absorbers, etc.) including carbon nanotubes. The carbon nanotubes may comprise single-walled carbon nanotubes, multi-walled carbon nanotubes, and/or carbon nanostructures comprising a branched network of crosslinked carbon nanotube structures. For example, an EMI mitigation material may comprise a filled dielectric including a pattern of EMI absorbers. The filled dielectric comprises carbon nanotubes.
Claims24
An electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation material comprising a filled dielectric including a pattern of EMI absorbers protruding outwardly along at least one side of the filled dielectric, wherein:
- the EMI mitigation material includes a planarization layer having an inverted pattern of the pattern of EMI absorbers that interleaves with the pattern of EMI absorbers such that the planarization layer defines a planar surface over the pattern of EMI absorbers;
- and/or
- the EMI absorbers are configured without substantial gaps or spaced distances between bases of adjacent EMI absorbers at which reflectivity might otherwise occur and/or the bases of adjacent EMI absorbers are spaced apart but sufficiently adjacent to avoid reflectivity that might otherwise occur at substantial gaps or spaced distances between the bases of adjacent EMI absorbers.
An electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation material comprising EMI absorbing structures including carbon nanotubes, wherein:
- the EMI absorbing structures are configured to suppress or reduce a probability of reflection of incident radiation through an aperture into a cavity or chamber when the EMI absorbing structures are disposed along an exterior to and/or an outside of the cavity or chamber;
- and/or
- the EMI mitigation material forms at least a portion of a crash bar end cap of a vehicle and is configured to reduce electromagnetic coupling between radar systems caused by conductive vehicle structures, whereby the carbon nanostructures impart sufficient resilience to enable snap-fit attachment of the crash bar end cap.
A thermal management and/or electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation material comprising a multilayer film structure defined by a plurality of layers, wherein:
- the layers have different filler densities per layer such that the multilayer film structure has differential filler loading within the layers and/or a filler density gradient that increases or decreases from a top layer to a bottom layer, whereby the different filler densities per layer allow at least one of the layers to have at least one performance characteristic different than at least one other layer relating to one or more of electrical, thermal, absorber, magnetic, dielectric, and/or structural performance;
- and/or
- fillers are dispersed within the layers to define through-thickness domains and/or segregated discrete areas within the layers that provide functionality within the through-thickness domains and/or segregated discrete areas including one or more of electrical, thermal, absorber, magnetic, dielectric, and/or structural functionality.
