Abstract
A system and method for controlling spectrally tunable light sources that enables real-time adjustment of spectral power distributions through the use of pre-computed simplex meshes. The invention dramatically reduces computational complexity compared to traditional optimization methods by subdividing the coordinate space into n-dimensional simplexes, pre-computing optimal spectral mixes at all simplex vertices and using barycentric coordinate interpolation for real-time mix generation. The system supports arbitrary optimization targets and can operate in n-dimensional space to simultaneously control multiple spectral characteristics.

A spectrally tunable lighting system comprising:
- a plurality of spectrally tunable light elements, each of the plurality of light elements having a spectral response curve defined by an intensity coefficient and frequency response;
- a memory for storing pre-computed intensity coefficients for each of the plurality of spectrally tunable light elements, wherein the pre-computed intensity coefficients are determined prior to a runtime of the spectrally tunable lighting system, and wherein the pre-computed intensity coefficients correspond to vertices of a simplex mesh of the spectral response curve;
- wherein the memory further stores instructions for controlling the spectrally tunable lighting system based on the stored pre-computed intensity coefficients;
- and
- a processor configured for executing the instructions of the memory.
A method for a spectrally tunable lighting system, the method comprising:
- retrieving, at a memory of the spectrally tunable lighting system, a plurality of pre-computed intensity coefficients for a plurality of spectrally tunable light elements of the lighting system, each of the plurality of light elements having a spectral response curve defined by an intensity coefficient and frequency response, and the pre-computed intensity coefficients determined prior to a runtime of the lighting system, wherein the pre-computed intensity coefficients correspond to vertices of a simplex mesh of the spectral response curve;
- powering the plurality of light elements based on the pre-computed intensity coefficients.
