Abstract
Techniques pertaining to allowing connection release by a user equipment (UE) after reception of a status message from a network are described. An apparatus (e. g., a UE) receives a message from a network. The apparatus then takes action with respect to a timer upon receipt of the message to either allow the network to release an existing connection or keep the existing connection from being released, depending on the message.

A method, comprising:
- maintaining, by a processor of a user equipment (UE), a timer which is for allowing a network to release an N1 non-access stratum (NAS) signaling connection;
- receiving, by the processor, a message from the network;
- and
- keeping, by the processor, the timer running upon receipt of the message.

- a transceiver configured to communicate wirelessly;

- maintaining a timer which is for allowing a network to release an N1 non-access stratum (NAS) signaling connection;
- receiving, via the transceiver, a message from the network;
- and
- keeping the timer running upon receipt of the message.
