Abstract

Procedures, methods, architectures, apparatuses, systems, devices, and computer program products for tracing camped terminals, i.e., wireless communication devices that are present in a wireless communication cell but that do not transmit/receive to/from a network node operating the cell, with an objective to reduce power consumption of the network without reducing its performance. Therefore, a network or network node may send a special request to UEs (User Equipments). Idle, or inactive UEs camping on the cell may respond with a special random access (RA) that they are camping on the cell, and may perform cell-reselection, so that the network node may enter a low-power consumption mode.

Dependent claims

A method, implemented by a wireless transmit-receive unit, WTRU, the method comprising:

receiving, from a first cell, a signal indicating a request to send a physical random access channel, PRACH, transmission;
measuring channel conditions of one or more alternative cells to the first cell, the one or more alternative cells being configured as associated with the first cell;
selecting a first preamble partition or a second preamble partition, the first preamble partition and the second preamble partition indicating an identity of at least one of the one or more alternative cells, based on the measured channel conditions;
and
sending to the first cell a PRACH transmission, wherein the PRACH transmission indicates a preamble from either the first preamble partition or the second preamble partition.

receive, from a first cell, a signal indicating a request to send a physical random access channel, PRACH, transmission;
