Dynamically selecting radios on station to reduce battery consumption

A station system comprising:

• a storage configured to store instructions;
• and
• a processor configured to execute the instructions and cause the station system to:
• receive, from an access point (AP), a multi-link device (MLD) grouping for a station device (STA);
• receive, from the AP, a policy to accept energy efficiency instructions that includes multi-link operation (MLO) in an energy conservation mode;
• receive, from the AP, instructions to reduce battery consumption by the STA by limiting MLO operations and activating a single radio of a plurality of radios on the STA, wherein a remainder of the plurality of radios are inactive and powered off;
• transmit, from the STA to the AP, activity information of the STA;
• and
• receive, from the AP, a wake-up message for one or more of the inactive radios of the STA responsive to the AP determining that activity of the STA is increasing based on the activity information.
