Relay device hybrid automatic repeat request (harq) nack message management

An apparatus for controlling a source user equipment (UE) device, the apparatus comprising a processor and a memory, the processor configured to:

• receive a UE list directly from each of a plurality of relay UE devices, the UE list identifying proximate UE devices that are within communication range of the relay UE device transmitting the UE list;
• transmit a communication request to one of the plurality of relay UE devices selected by the source UE device based at least partially on the UE list, the selected relay UE device configured to relay destination device data to a target UE device;
• and
• transmit the destination device data directly to the selected relay UE device.

A method comprising:

• receiving, at a source user equipment (UE) device, a UE list directly from each of a plurality of relay UE devices, the UE list identifying proximate UE devices that are within communication range of the relay UE device transmitting the UE list;
• transmitting, from the source UE device, a communication request to one of the plurality of relay UE devices selected by the source UE device based at least partially on the UE list, the selected relay UE device configured to relay destination device data to a target UE device;
• and
• transmitting, from the source UE device, the destination device data directly to the selected relay UE device.

A relay user equipment (UE) device comprising:

• a transmitter configured to directly transmit, to a source UE device, a UE list identifying proximate UE devices that are within communication range of the relay UE device;
• and
• a receiver configured to:
• receive, from the source UE device that selected the relay UE device from among a plurality of relay UE devices identified in a plurality of UE lists received from the plurality of relay UE devices, a communication request, and
• receive destination device data from the source UE device, the destination device data directed to a target UE device identified by the UE list,
• wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit the destination device data directly to the target UE device.

An apparatus for controlling a relay user equipment (UE) device, the apparatus comprising a processor and a memory, the processor is configured to:

• transmit, directly to a source UE device, a UE list identifying proximate UE devices that are within communication range of the relay UE device;
• receive, from the source UE device that selected the relay UE device from among a plurality of relay UE devices identified in a plurality of UE lists received from the plurality of relay UE devices, a communication request;
• receive destination device data directly from the source UE device, the destination device data directed to a target UE device identified by the UE list;
• and
• transmit the destination device data directly to the target UE device.

A method comprising:

• transmitting, directly from a relay user equipment (UE) device to a source UE device, a UE list identifying proximate UE devices that are within communication range of the relay UE device;
• receiving, at the relay UE device from the source UE device that selected the relay UE device from among a plurality of relay UE devices identified in a plurality of UE lists received from the plurality of relay UE devices, a communication request;
• receiving, at the relay UE device, destination device data directly from the source UE device, the destination device data directed to a target UE device identified by the UE list;
• and
• transmitting, from the relay UE device, the destination device data directly to the target UE device.
