Abstract
The present technology dynamically manages network connectivity in a portable user device with multiple SIM cards. The method includes activating a SIM card associated with a first network and placing the remaining SIM cards associated with other networks in a passive mode. The device detects the signal strengths of the networks. When the signal strength of a network surpasses a preset threshold, the device switches the corresponding SIM card to active mode and the previously active SIM card to passive mode. This dynamic management approach allows the device to adapt to changing network conditions, maintaining robust connectivity in diverse environments.
Claims20
A smart radio device comprising:
- at least one hardware processor;
- and
- at least one non-transitory memory storing instructions, which, when executed by the at least one hardware processor, cause the smart radio device to:
- enter an active mode on a first Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card of the smart radio device,
- wherein the first SIM card is associated with a first communication network,
- wherein the active mode connects the first SIM card to the first communication network,
- wherein the smart radio device is one of multiple smart radio devices hosted by a server for managing communications of workers at a worksite,
- wherein the first communication network is a public cellular network;
- enter a passive mode on a second SIM card of the smart radio device,
- wherein the second SIM card is associated with a second communication network,
- wherein the second communication network is a private cellular network, the private cellular network accessible only to the multiple smart radio devices,
- wherein the passive mode disconnects the second SIM card and the second communication network;
- detect, simultaneously, a first communication network signal strength and a second communication network signal strength;
- and
- switch, in response to detecting that the second communication network signal strength surpasses a particular threshold strength, the first SIM card from the active mode to the passive mode and the second SIM card from the passive mode to the active mode,
- wherein the second SIM card is connected to the second communication network while in the active mode,
- wherein the first SIM card is disconnected from the first communication network while in the passive mode.
A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions recorded thereon, wherein the instructions, when executed by at least one data processor of a system, cause the system to:
- enter an active mode on a first Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card of a smart radio device,
- wherein the first SIM card is associated with a first communication network,
- wherein the active mode connects the first SIM card to the first communication network,
- wherein the smart radio device is one of multiple smart radio devices hosted by a server for managing communications of workers at a worksite,
- wherein the first communication network is a public cellular network;
- enter a passive mode on a second SIM card of the smart radio device,
- wherein the second SIM card is associated with a second communication network,
- wherein the passive mode disconnects the second SIM card and the second communication network,
- wherein the second communication network is a private cellular network, the private cellular network available only to the multiple smart radio devices;
- detect, simultaneously, a first communication network signal strength and a second communication network signal strength;
- and
- switch, in response to detecting that the second communication network signal strength surpasses a particular threshold strength, the first SIM card from the active mode to the passive mode and the second SIM card from the passive mode to the active mode,
- wherein the second SIM card is connected to the second communication network while in the active mode,
- wherein the first SIM card is disconnected from the first communication network while in the passive mode.
A method comprising:
- entering an active mode on a first Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card of a smart radio device,
- wherein the first SIM card is associated with a first communication network,
- wherein the active mode connects the first SIM card to the first communication network,
- wherein the smart radio device is one of multiple smart radio devices hosted by a server for managing communications of workers at a worksite,
- wherein the first communication network is a public cellular network;
- entering a passive mode on a second SIM card of the smart radio device,
- wherein the second SIM card is associated with a second communication network,
- wherein the passive mode disconnects the second SIM card and the second communication network,
- wherein the second communication network is a private cellular network, the private cellular network available only to the multiple smart radio devices;
- detecting, simultaneously, a first communication network signal strength and a second communication network signal strength;
- and
- switching, in response to detecting that the second communication network signal strength surpasses a particular threshold strength, the first SIM card from the active mode to the passive mode and the second SIM card from the passive mode to the active mode,
- wherein the second SIM card is connected to the second communication network while in the active mode,
- wherein the first SIM card is disconnected from the first communication network while in the passive mode.
