Abstract
Portions of different versions of a content asset may be stored in a manner that reduces the impact on viewing experience in the event of a failure of one of a plurality of storage subsystems of a content storage system. The portions of different versions of the content asset, which may be associated with a same portion of the playback time of the content asset, may be stored in different storage subsystems. If the storage subsystem storing a portion of one of the versions being retrieved for playback encounters a problem, a user device may access a corresponding portion of a different version stored on a different one of the storage subsystems.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- during a first time period, storing portions of each of a plurality of differently encoded versions of a content asset on different ones of a plurality of storage subsystems, wherein the plurality of storage subsystems forms a circular sequence of storage subsystems;
- and
- repeatedly, at the start of each of a plurality of subsequent time periods, changing the storage subsystems on which portions of each of the plurality of differently encoded versions of the content asset are stored by shifting the storing of portions of each of the plurality of differently encoded versions of the content assets to a different next storage subsystem in the circular sequence.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause:
- during a first time period, storing portions of each of a plurality of differently encoded versions of a content asset on different ones of a plurality of storage subsystems, wherein the plurality of storage subsystems forms a circular sequence of storage subsystems;
- and
- repeatedly, at the start of each of a plurality of subsequent time periods, changing the storage subsystems on which portions of each of the plurality of differently encoded versions of the content asset are stored by shifting the storing of portions of each of the plurality of differently encoded versions of the content assets to a different next storage subsystem in the circular sequence.
A computing device comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to:
- cause, during a first time period, storing of portions of each of a plurality of differently encoded versions of a content asset on different ones of a plurality of storage subsystems, wherein the plurality of storage subsystems forms a circular sequence of storage subsystems;
- and
- cause repeatedly, at the start of each of a plurality of subsequent time periods, changing the storage subsystems on which portions of each of the plurality of differently encoded versions of the content asset are stored by shifting the storing of portions of each of the plurality of differently encoded versions of the content assets to a different next storage subsystem in the circular sequence.
