Abstract

A display interfaced with plural information handling systems presents information as visual images in a picture-by-picture configuration that applies a frame rate of a primary source synchronized with a secondary source. The display scalar executes instructions stored in non-transitory memory to retrieve a frame rate request from each of the plural information handling systems and apply to the presentation of picture-by-picture visual images the frame right of a primary source. The frame rate request of the primary source is provided up to the display maximum frame rate, although a lower harmonious common frame rate may be set as a factor of another display having a lower frame rate.

Dependent claims

A system comprising:

a first information handling system having a first housing, a first processor and a first memory, the first processor and first memory cooperating to process information;
a second information handling system having a second housing, a second processor and a second memory, the second processor and second memory cooperating to process information;
a display interfaced with the first information handling system and the second information handling system, the display having a display panel with an array of pixels that define visual images, a timing controller interfaced with the display panel that scans pixel values to the array of pixels, and a scalar interfaced with the timing controller, the scalar including a processing resource;
and
a non-transitory memory interfaced with the scalar and storing instructions that when executed on the scalar cause:
designation of the first information handling system as a primary frame rate source;
retrieval of a first frame rate request from the first information handling system;
retrieval of a second frame rate request from the second information handling system;
a first Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) declaration to the first information handling system and the second information handling system having a non-picture-by-picture frame rate;
and
a second EDID declaration to the first information handling system and the second information handling system having a picture-by-picture frame rate;
and
presentation of visual images from both the first and second information handling systems when in a picture-by-picture mode based upon the first frame rate request.

A display comprising:

a display panel with an array of pixels that present visual images;
a timing controller interfaced with the display panel that scans pixel values to the array of pixels;
a scalar interfaced with the timing controller and having a processing resource to manage display panel operations;
and
a non-transitory memory interfaced with the scalar and storing instructions that when executed on the processing resource cause:
designation of a first information handling system as a primary frame rate source;
retrieval of a first frame rate request from the first information handling system;
retrieval of a second frame rate request from a second information handling system;
receipt of visual information from the first information handling system at the assigned frame rate;
synchronization of visual information received from the second information handling system to the assigned frame rate by the scalar;
and
presentation of visual images from both the first and second information handling systems when in a picture-by-picture mode based upon the first frame rate request.
