Automatic service discovery and inter-service communications in a peer-to-peer network

A system comprising:

• a processing system;
• and
• memory comprising computer executable instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising:
• detecting, by a first device connected to a second device via a peer-to-peer network, a request to transmit a first query to a first service that is active on the second device;
• in response to detecting the request to transmit the first query to the first service, transmitting, by the first device, the first query to the second device;
• receiving, by the first device from the second device, first data associated with the first query;
• detecting, by the first device, that a second service has become active on the first device;
• in response to detecting that the second service has become active, transmitting, by the first device, information about the second service to the second device;
• receiving, by the first device from the second device, a second query associated with the second service;
• identifying, by the second service, second data associated with the second query;
• and
• transmitting, by the first device, the second data to the second device.

A method comprising:

• transmitting, by a first device connected to a second device via a peer-to-peer network, a first query to a first service that is active on the second device;
• receiving, by the first device from the second device, first data satisfying the first query;
• detecting, by the first device, that a second service has become active on the first device;
• in response to detecting that the second service has become active, transmitting, by the first device, information about the second service to the second device;
• receiving, by the first device from the second device, a second query associated with the second service;
• identifying, by the second service, second data satisfying the second query;
• and
• transmitting, by the first device, the second data to the second device.

A first device comprising:

• a processing system;
• and
• memory comprising computer executable instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising:
• detecting a service has become active on the first device;
• in response to detecting that the service has become active, multicasting information about the service to a second device via a peer-to-peer network;
• receiving, from the second device, a query associated with the service;
• identifying, by the service, data associated with the query;
• and
• transmitting the data to the second device to satisfy the query.
