An example embodiment routes requests over a network to corresponding AI agents capable of handling the requests. A routing mechanism enables each AI agent to advertise their set of skills or capabilities (and/or skills or capabilities of agents reachable by that AI agent) using a conventional or other network routing protocol (e.g., Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP), Intermediate System to Intermediate System, etc.) adapted or modified for semantic routing. The skills or capabilities of an AI agent are represented as boundaries of a polytope in a vector space, and may be advertised via exchanges of the network routing protocol. At intermediate hops between source and target AI agents, polytopes may be processed to summarize skills reachable via an intermediate agent. This allows the intermediate agent to act as the gateway in providing access to skills which might be reachable through it.
