Design configuration for providing a communication service

An apparatus to configure communication services provided by a communication service provider, the apparatus comprising:

• one or more computer readable storage media;
• a processing system operatively coupled with the one or more computer readable storage media;
• and
• program instructions stored on the one or more computer readable storage media that, when read and executed by the processing system, direct the apparatus to:
• identify a root node in a service design catalog corresponding to service design parameters for a communication service;
• traverse the service design catalog from the root node through one or more levels of child nodes defined by the service design catalog until one or more leaf nodes are reached, wherein, at each level of traversal, a child node is selected from among multiple candidate child nodes based on at least one of the service design parameters, and each candidate child node corresponds to a different configuration option for the communication service;
• and
• configure one or more resource-facing services and one or more underlying resources corresponding to nodes traversed during traversal of the service design catalog.

One or more computer-readable storage media having program instructions stored thereon for configuring communication services provided by a communication service provider, the program instructions, when read and executed by a processing system, direct the processing system to:

• receive service design parameters for a communication service provided by the communication service provider;
• identify service nodes a service design catalog corresponding to the service design parameters, wherein the service nodes include a root node and one or more leaf nodes with one or more intervening levels of child nodes, wherein, at each node level, a child node is identified from among multiple candidate child nodes based on at least one of the service design parameters, and each candidate child node corresponds to a different configuration option for the communication service;
• and
• configure communication resources corresponding to the service nodes.
