An ac-dc switch mode electrical power converter

An AC-DC switch mode electrical power converter, comprising:

• an input half-bridge comprising two legs connected in parallel, one leg defining an input capacitive leg or a switched capacitor leg and one leg defining an input switching leg or a switched capacitor leg, the input capacitive leg comprising a first input capacitor connected in series to a second input capacitor, the input switching leg comprising a first input power switch connected in series to a second input power switch, and the switched capacitor leg comprising a combination of power switches and capacitors;
• an output half-bridge comprising two legs connected in parallel, one leg defining an output capacitive leg or a switched capacitor leg and one leg defining an output switching leg or a switched capacitor leg, the output capacitive leg comprising a first output capacitor connected in series to a second output capacitor, the output switching leg comprising a first output power switch connected in series to a second output power switch, and the switched capacitor leg comprising a combination of power switches and capacitors;
• and
• a transformer
• wherein:
• a secondary winding of the transformer is connected between a second output middle point of the output capacitive leg or the switched capacitor leg and a first output middle point of the output switching leg or the switched capacitor leg;
• a primary winding of the transformer is connected in series to an AC input voltage source, the primary winding of the transformer and the AC input voltage source being connected between a first input middle point of the input capacitive leg or the switched capacitor leg and a second input middle point of the input switching leg or the switched capacitor leg;
• and
• an input current and an output voltage of the AC-DC switch mode electrical power converter are controlled based on control variables, the later comprising a duty cycle of the input half-bridge, a duty cycle of the output half-bridge, and a phase shift between the duty cycle of the half-bridge and the duty cycle of the output half-bridge.
