System and method for energy management

An energy management system, comprising:

• at least one sensor, configured to provide environmental data including at least one of an indoor temperature, a humidity level, an air quality, or an occupancy status;
• and
• a controller, coupled to a plurality of energy sources and a plurality of appliances, wherein the controller is configured to:
• receive a device list file associated with the appliances and the energy sources, and a plurality of user setting parameters including comfort thresholds, health requirements, appliance preferences, and weighting factors for cost, comfort, and health;
• determine appliance categories associated with the appliances and assign decision variables based on the appliance categories, wherein the decision variables include operating state parameters, operating periods, actual start times, and power consumption of each of the appliances;
• compute an electricity cost, a comfort penalty, and a health index based on the environmental data and the user setting parameters;
• generate a cost-comfort-health index by applying the weighting factors to the electricity cost, the comfort penalty, and the health index;
• generate constraints based on the device list file, the user setting parameters, and the environmental data;
• formulate a mixed-integer programming equation to minimize the cost-comfort-health index based on the constraints;
• solve the mixed-integer programming equation to determine optimum operating states of the appliances and output power of the energy sources;
• and
• execute the operating state parameters and energy outputs based on the optimum operating states and the output power of the energy sources.
