Semiconductor-based circuit breaker and operating method

A solid state circuit breaker, comprising:

• at least one network-side connection and at least one load-side connection;
• a main current path for conducting a main current between said at least one network-side connection and said at least one load-side connections;
• two normally-on semiconductor actuators being connected in antiseries in said main current path, each of said two normally-on semiconductor actuators having a control connection for controlling a voltage of said two normally-on semiconductor actuators;
• two normally-off semiconductor actuators being connected in antiseries in said main current path, each of said two normally-off semiconductor actuators having a control connection for controlling a voltage of said two normally-off semiconductor actuators;
• and
• a charge store connected in parallel with said two normally-off semiconductor actuators, said charge store being configured to be charged by blocking the main current by means of said two normally-off semiconductor actuators and in a charged state, to provide a supply voltage for operating the circuit breaker.
