Abstract
Methods and systems are provided for a battery pack. The battery pack includes cells grouped in pairs. The battery pack further includes thermal barriers and compressible layers interposed between the pairs. At least some tabs of the cells are directly welded to each other rather than to a corresponding bus bar.
Claims20
A battery pack, comprising:
- a cell stack including:
- cells grouped in pairs;
- and
- thermal barriers and compressible layers interposed between the pairs, where a first tab of each of the cells is directly welded to an adjacent first tab in the corresponding cell pair.
1 more element
A method of manufacturing a battery pack, comprising:
- stacking cells having tabs into one or more cell pairs;
- pre-assembly welding at least some of the tabs directly to each other;
- assembling the cell pairs with a frame;
- and
- post-assembly welding remaining unwelded tabs.
2 more elements
A battery pack, comprising:
- a frame;
- and
- a cell stack housed within the frame, the cell stack including:
- a plurality of cells having first tabs on a first side of the cell stack and second tabs on a second side of the cell stack opposite the first side, wherein the cells are grouped only in pairs;
- and
- compressible layers and thermal barriers stacked with the pairs, wherein the first tabs couple cells within corresponding cell pairs and do not protrude from the frame, and the second tabs protrude from the frame and bridge the compressible layers and thermal barriers to couple cells of different cell pairs.
