Abstract
The present disclosure generally provides methods for determining a kinetic energy loss. The methods include injecting an ion population including the ion of interest into a trapping region and establishing an electrostatic trapping field within the region. A time-varying signal representative of a current induced on a detector based on the ion population is generated. A Selective Temporal Overview of Resonant Ion (STORI) plot is generated based on the time-varying signal. An ion decay event is identified, in which the ion decay event includes a kinetic energy loss occurring in the trapping region.

A method for determining a kinetic energy loss, comprising:
- injecting an ion population including an ion of interest into a trapping region and establishing an electrostatic trapping field within the trapping region;
- generating a time-varying signal representative of a current induced on a detector based on the ion population;
- generating a Selective Temporal Overview of Resonant Ion (STORI) plot based on the time-varying signal;
- and
- identifying an ion decay event comprising a kinetic energy loss occurring in the trapping region.
A method for determining a kinetic energy loss, comprising:
- storing an ion population including an ion of interest in an ion store;
- injecting the ion population into a trapping region and establishing an electrostatic trapping field within the trapping region;
- generating a time-varying signal representative of a current induced on a detector based on the ion population;
- generating a generate a Selective Temporal Overview of Resonant Ion (STORI) plot based on the time-varying signal;
- and
- identifying an ion decay event comprising a kinetic energy loss.
A method for determining a collision cross section of an ion of interest, comprising:
- injecting an ion population including the ion of interest into a trapping region and establishing an electrostatic trapping field within the trapping region;
- generating a time-varying signal representative of a current induced on a detector based on the ion population;
- generating a generate a Selective Temporal Overview of Resonant Ion (STORI) plot based on the time-varying signal;
