Abstract

A main circuit breaker with integrated surge protection eliminates the need to wire and install surge protection separately from the main circuit breaker at a service entrance, and additionally eliminates the need to install an individual surge protection scheme for each individual sub-feed connected to the main circuit breaker. The breaker includes a number of replaceable surge protection modules, one for each line voltage, and a module status indicator for each surge protection module to indicate the remaining useful life of the module. The breaker housing is formed with a module receiving opening for each surge protection module. Each module receiving opening and each surge protection module are designed to enable a user to insert the surge protection module into the module receiving opening and remove the surge protection module from the module receiving opening without external tools and using only finger strength.
